[Single] DL Moreno (@dlmorenomusic) - Savage

It’s safe to say that artist DL Moreno was always destined be a musician. Growing up in a musical family, Moreno’s mother was a singer in a girl group, inevitably signed by Warner Brothers Records. At the young age of ten years old, Moreno began to play the drums, which paved the way for his inevitable musical career. “I started playing with orchestras, and learned to read music,” explains the artist. “Music has always been a part of my life.” DL Moreno’s passion for music grew and evolved until he was encouraged to dedicate his time and resources to making it as a full-fledged hip hop artist. From upgrading to modern software to partnering with renowned production companies, DL Moreno is on the track to well-earned success.

Moreno’s background in drumming has lent itself to his unique, rhythmic style. “It’s like playing drums with your mouth,” explains the performer, who moved from drums to rapping, singing, and producing music. His zest for hip hop began when he listened to “Rapper’s Delight” by the Sugarhill Gang.

His latest project, a single titled “Savage,” which features singer Trey Songz was released in March (and is currently available via iTunes). The song is “#NSFW,” and when asked about its message, DL Moreno laughs, “It’s risqué in nature,” deciding to let the listeners derive the message for themselves. The song has an incredibly rhythmic vibe, which one can attribute to Moreno’s drummer background, spouting rhymes quickly and succinctly.

Success to DL Moreno is two fold: First, the artist is eager to make it big enough to make music his full-time career. Fame and fortune doesn’t inspire him, but growing up with an incredibly supportive family, he feels it’s his turn to return the favor. “My family, my parents have always helped me and I would love to reciprocate.” Ultimately, however, Moreno is eager to use his rap platform for good. Inspired by artists like Bob Marley and Marvin Gaye who have used their music to inspire social change, the artist inevitably wants to spread a bigger, positive message with his rhymes. “With music, it’s there to entertain, but if you can bring social awareness to the point where people start thinking about things and it helps people, that would be greater than personal success.
